Mothing with Butterfly Ridge

Join Chris Kline of Butterfly Ridge for an engaging introduction to the fascinating world of moths. The evening begins with a 30 minute presentation, followed by a couple of hours at the lights, where well observe, identify, and discuss the moths that arrive throughout the night. Christopher Klines passion for butterflies began in 1997, when he started tagging Monarch butterflies in Indiana. Since then, he has tagged thousands of Monarchs, co-founded the Central Arizona Butterfly Association, and founded the Southwest Monarch Study. He has also served as the Butterfly Specialist at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Columbus, Ohio.Today, Chris is the Director of the Butterfly Ridge Butterfly Conservation Center in Rockbridge, Ohio. Along with his wife, he has transformed 21 acres of fields and forests into butterfly-friendly habitat, resulting in a remarkable fivefold increase in the propertys butterfly population.Chris is also an accomplished author whose books include A Field Guide to Tropical Butterflies of American Conservatories, Butterfly Gardening with Native Plants, Butterfly Rider, Moths of Butterfly Ridge, and The Beginners Guide to Mothing. Whether youre an experienced moth enthusiast or simply curious about the nocturnal creatures that emerge after dark, this is a great opportunity to learn more about Ohios incredible moth diversity and the important role these often-overlooked pollinators play in our ecosystems.
