Overview
The Nelsonville Public Library has a friendly, knowledgeable staff able to help you find a good book to read, answer a reference question, or to just get to know the area. Nelsonville library is the main branch of the Athens County Public Library system and houses the administrative offices and the cataloging department. The library provides public library services to the city of Nelsonville, Hocking College and the surrounding communities. In addition to the normal offerings of books, magazines and newspapers, books, music, DVDs and videos, and public computers with Internet access, the Nelsonville branch offers an extensive Local History/Genealogy Collection (with a local historian on staff), rotating Art in the Library displays, and a Homework Help tutoring program. Other services include - Public Internet access, Wireless Internet, Meeting facilities, Bike checkouts, Copiers/fax service, and Interlibrary Loans.

WALK Explore Athens Co: Millfield Mine Disaster

Participants can park in the post office parking lot in Millfield located right beside the memorial.

Ron Luce, local historian and former director of the Athens County Historical Society, will lead our short stroll through Millfield. There we will focus on the disaster, the company store and the memorial for the lives lost during this tragic event. Our walk will be supplemented by photographs and a video from the day of the event.

We will walk just a short distance from the memorial statue to the old company store.

WALK Explore Athens Co: Amesville

3:00 - 4:30 pm.

This installment of our WALK: Explore Athens County series will be lead by Gary Gooseman, mayor of Amesville. He will walk us through the history of the Coonskin Library, the Underground Railroad and some older homes in this picturesque village.

The walk will begin at the park in Amesville which is just on the right hand side of 550, there is ample parking along 550. The walk will last about an hour and will be mostly on sidewalks. Severe weather will cancel the event.
