COOKING SCHOOL at SHAW'S RESTAURANT

Susie Cork, the general manager of Shaw's Restaurant and Inn, also offers cooking classes in Shaw's newly renovated Cooking Studio.

"I want to inspire, give them confidence to cook at home," said Cork, who is a graduate of the Culinary School at Kendall College and has been a chef in Chicago for 17 years.

Cork interacts, entertains, and educates her class as she prepares her culinary delights. The class is limited to about 14 people and is held every Saturday for about two hours. The class cost $40 per person and includes lunch.   

Where and When:
  • The classes are demonstration in style and held on Saturdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm in our Studio on the third floor of the Inn
  • The class ends with lunch paired with an optional glass of wine (for a reasonable fee) and a typed set of recipes for you to take home
  • Bottles of wine are available for purchase
  • Coffee, tea and water are provided

The Particulars:

  • Classes are $40 per person and the class size is limited to 14 people
  • In order to make a reservation for the class, prepayment is required

  • Shaw’s gift certificates are available in any amount and are valid for the Restaurant, Inn and Cooking Studio
  • Private class events and larger groups can be accommodated with custom menus and wine tasting

The Instructor:

  • Classes are designed and taught by Susie Cork, who is also the General Manager of Shaw’s
  • A Lancaster native, Susie is a graduate of The Culinary School at Kendall College in Chicago and honed her skills at Chicago’s top restaurants for 17 years, including Ambria of the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants
  • She also taught cooking classes at A La Carte Gourmet Kitchen and The Chopping Block Cooking School in Chicago.

    • Grilled Caesar Beef Skewers, Warm Bacon Sweet Potato Salad, Blueberry Lemon Cream Tart, Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade
  • July 5: Hands on Summer Flowers and Parisian Lunch
    • Join the owner of Helen’s Flowers, Rosemary Dupler, and create a take-home Summer Floral Arrangement and enjoy a French lunch demonstration class on Vichyssoise Soup, Chicken Crepes, Berry Clafouti, $55, vase included. 10:30-1:30pm, Class limited to 14 students.

    • Beef Tenderloin Roasted in a Salt Crust, Creamy Saffron Linguine, Souffléd Crepes with Fresh Berries.

  • July 26: Hands on Knife Skills with Bach
    • Bring your knife or use ours and learn how to chop vegetables correctly and efficiently. All accompanied by the soothing concertos of Johann Sebastian.
  • August 2: Some Enchanted Evening
    • Lobster Cakes with a Lemon Basil Aioli, Chorizo-Cornbread Stuffed Beef Roulade with Corn Relish, Fresh Peach Melba, $45.
    • In addition, Champagne Bellini’s, made with fresh white peaches, will be offered for a reasonable fee.
  • August 9: Summer when it Sizzles
    • Crab Deviled Eggs, Grilled Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken Skewers with Figs, Curried Couscous Salad, Smore’s Cookies, $40.
  • August 16: Low Country Cuisine –Cooking from the Carolinas
    • Carolina Shrimp and Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes with Fresh Corn & Tomato Relish, Huguenot Apple Pecan Torte with Bourbon Caramel Sauce, $40.
  • August 23: Easy As Pie-Hands on Pie Making
    • Fresh Nectarine Lattice Pie, Frozen Strawberry Margarita Pie, Chocolate Banana Cream Pie

    • Join us as we pay tribute to Julia Child with sweet and savory pastries. We will learn how to make Brioche, Danish and Pie Dough.
    • Menu: Caramelized Onion-Butternut Squash Tart, Grilled Homemade Brioche Turkey Panini, Apricot Danish Braid, $40.
  • September 20: Perfect Prime Rib
    • Spice Rubbed Prime Rib, Cabernet Au jus, Horseradish sauce, Risotto with Butternut Squash and Hazelnuts, Dark Chocolate Crème Brulee, $40.
  • September 27: Hands on Scrapbooking and Tuscan Farmhouse Supper
    • Join Carla Macioci from Scrapbooker’s Haven and learn how to scrapbook. Each student will receive enough Autumn-themed supplies and ideas for 2+ pages.
    • The second half of the class will be a demonstration cooking class on Braised Pork Loin with sage cream sauce, Potato Rosemary Gnocchi Pasta, Peasant Apple Tart. $55. 10:30-1:30. Limit 14 students.
