2:30 PM to East Logan Train Ride

2:30 pm Take a narrated train ride through the historic Hocking River Valley to East Logan, passing through Haydenville, Ohios last company town. It operates round-trip from the Nelsonville Depot to East Logan, lasting approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. You will also get a glimpse of the current industry in the Valley including gravel mining operations and a lumber facility. On-board narration will provide a history of the area and railroad. You may bring soft drinks and food aboard. No restrooms on the train (available in the depot). There is a wheelchair lift available at the depot as needed. Duration of ride: Approximately 2 hours

Bonnie Prince Billy

7:30 pm Box: $38/advance $43/door Floor: $33/advance $38/door Balcony: $28/advance $33/door The Other Years will open the show. The man who acts under the name Will Oldham and sings and composes under the name Bonnie “Prince” Billy has, over the past quarter-century, made an idiosyncratic journey through, and an indelible mark on, the worlds of indie rock and independent cinema. With his highly individualistic approach to music making and the music industry, one that cherishes intimacy, community, mystery, and spontaneity; his brilliance has captivated fans and made Bonny one of our most influential and beloved songsmiths. Recent projects in 2016 include the collaborative LP with Bitchin Bajas (EPIC JAMMERS AND FORTUNATE LITTLE DITTIES); a split 7″ with Oscar Lee Riley Parsons; numerous performances with neo-classical ensemble 8th Blackbird; a collection of recordings, POND SCUM, made over the years under the auspices of John Peel’s BBC radio program; and co-writing and performing “The Dragon Song” in Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON movie. 2017 will find Bonny performing with Bitchin Bajas, Eighth Blackbird, in addition to rare and scattered solo shows. Woo, boy! Summer is finally here and what a time to be alive, in the midst of a streaming roll out for the ages. See, since April, each week has brought another year from the Palace-Oldham-Bonny universe to streaming life chronologically, allowing worldwide streaming audiences the chance to join the BPB congregation en masse. It’s a common theme around these Drag City parts —ye old “Prince” giving and giving, happily bestowing upon your feeble, non-physical-buying, formless being. Just next weekend, he’s taking the solo show route for the first time, in, well, a long time! But Bonny’s boundless gifts don’t end there; beginning in the deep dog days of Summer the Prince and his ensemble–the Wandering All-Stars & Motor Royalty–are headed on the road again. Bonnie will be passing through the Southeast for a pair of public lectures at Duke University (oh, to be a fly on that wall!) as well as a special Bonnie performance before heading off on a proper tour with stops in the Midwest and Northeast. Early October will also see the release of Songs of Love and Horror, the definitive collection of Will Oldham’s lyrics—spanning three decades of songwriting with annotations that impart new meaning to his music. Copies of the book will be available at every show, this musical and literary combination is not to be missed. It’s been years since you’ve had the option to see Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy RAW: live, uncensored and in intimate settings, so hop to it! THE OTHER YEARS The Other Years from Louisville, Kentucky are a duet born from a sister friendship, two friendly vines headed up the same tree. Their voices combine in many forms, embarking on a journey of song writing influenced by the old time tradition.

Over the last decade, Pokey has won the hearts of music lovers across the globe with his creative mix of early jazz, string ragtime, country blues and western swing. After signing with Jack Whites Third Man Records to release his fifth full-length album (Pokey LaFarge) in 2013, he performed as a musical guest on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Late Late Show on Irelands RTÉ One network. Pokeys rendition of -Lovesick Blues- with Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, featured on an episode of Boardwalk Empire, was selected for inclusion on the series official soundtrack (Vol. 2). Additionally, Pokey appeared in Disneys The Lone Ranger (both on screen and on the original score), was featured on A Prairie Home Companion and NPRs World Cafe, and recorded a song for ATO Records Divided & United: Songs of the Civil War, produced by Randall Poster. 2014 has been Pokeys most momentous year yet; by spring, he had brought his music to five continents, with international tours in India, Australia and New Zealand. In the past year, Pokeys tour trail (consisting of over 250 shows) included appearances at clubs and festivals across the USA and Canada as well as two extensive tours in Europe. Pokey has played with the likes of Jack White, The Raconteurs, Wanda Jackson, Old Crow Medicine Show, and most recently, Carolina Chocolate Drops. As an opening act on Jack White’s Blunderbuss tour, he delighted sold out crowds at Red Rocks Amphitheater and Radio City Music Hall, among other notable venues in North America. Pokey is currently touring with a five-piece backing band, including his original bandmates (Ryan Koenig on harmonica, washboard and snare, Adam Hoskins on guitar and Joey Glynn on upright bass), in addition to Chloe Feoranzo on clarinet and TJ Muller on cornet. At only 31 years old, Pokeys career has not slowed in momentum since it began with his first release Marmalade (2007). Shortly followed by Beat, Move and Shake (2008) and Riverboat Soul (2010), Pokey quickly graduated from breakthrough artist to leading musical figure, receiving two consecutive Independent Music Awards for Best Americana Album (Riverboat Soul and Middle of Everywhere).

Grinding Demonstration at Rock Mill

1:00 - 3:00 pm Demonstrations will be held only on the following dates, the last Sunday of the month, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. during Rock Mill Weekend events. October 28. Note: The dates of demonstrations are subject to change based on weather conditions that effect the Hocking River. There needs to be enough water flowing to operate the mill. Before traveling long distances to view the mill in action, you should call 740-681-7249. Rock Mill is an 1824 grist mill that stands 90 feet above the gorge of Hocking River Falls. It was one of a dozen mills in the area powered by the Hocking River. The mill was in operation until about 1905. It then sat, quiet, and fell into disrepair. It was restored to working order in 2017 when it roared to life and milled grain again for the first time in over 100 years. Also on site is the iconic Rock Mill Covered Bridge, constructed in 1901. It may be the smallest bridge in the county but it is the most well-known. Be sure to bring your camera. Gift Shop - Specialty mill-themed items are available in the gift shop, note cards with five scenes of the mill and area, mugs, aprons, prints for framing, more. Free, Family-Friendly Event - This event is run by volunteers who support Fairfield County Parks. Without them, Rock Mill Weekends would not be possible. Parking - Parking next to the mill is limited. If possible, please leave those spaces for the elderly or infirm. There is a new parking lot to the right just before arriving at the park. It is about 400 feet from the mill and there is a downhill slope so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. Those with special needs can be dropped off at the bridge near the mill.
