Outside there is a covered front porch with ample chairs where you can sit and listen to the flowing waters from Salt Creek, which runs next to the cabin. Enjoy your morning coffee by watching the hummingbirds feed within feet of you. Or simply sit and contemplate the handiwork of nature! We have an array of native birds that show up at the feeders: Eastern bluebird, cardinal, finch and even the occasional woodpecker.

The back deck runs the length of the cabin where the hot tub, picnic table and grill are located and backs up to a natural, wooded hillside. During the summer when the joe-pye-weed & the butterfly plants bloom, the hill is alive with butterflies. An open pit fire ring is 25’ away from the deck. As the sun sets, the bob whites and whip-poor wills arrive to serenade you. After a day of hiking or simply a day of rest, you can enjoy the hot tub or sit in the front yard where amazing stargazing awaits you. What a way to end a day in Hocking County.

You can hike back to our 8’x8’ cabin in the woods — less than a 1/4 mile-and watch the deer, turkey and squirrels feed. The hike back takes you through a beautifully mature forest. In the summer, pick some wild blackberries as you go! There is one main trail to follow that takes you through a small creek so bring your boots or hiking shoes. Across from Big Maple is hundreds of acres of public access property owned by the Mead Corp. with miles of hiking trails as well.
