Ed FassigBackwoods Musings Cover

All newspapers have their favorite writer. In Hocking County, Ohio the favorite is Ed Fassig, a columnist who recounts his life, experiences and insights on Saturdays in The Logan Daily News.

Fassig, a twenty-six year inhabitant of the Hocking Hills, has been writing his own brand of homespun humor since 1995.

The local storyteller, part Charles Kuralt and part Paul Harvey, tells his stories to the delight of readers throughout the Hocking Valley.

His topic include politics, farming, history, holiday shopping and excerpts from his life.

Fassig does it all with a down-home touch and a backwoods sense of humor.

Reading his work is like coming back home. His prose is original, refreshing, witty and a dang good time.

EXCERPTS
  • joe.gif (17993 bytes)He found a pry-bar over in a corner and jabbed it under Jake's hip and, using a pile of frozen horse manure as a fulcrum, managed to pry him up enough that I could yank the chain out.
  • With that, he dumped the whole bucket of lemonade on the ground, then threw the bucket at me. "I ain't drikin' no damn water with no damn chaff in it. You go get me some fresh water an' keep in clean."
  • A coffin was procured from a local undertaker, and Kelley and a large quanity of ice were put into it. There was no use wasting the ice, so the beer was also placed in the coffin to cool.
  • They are beginning to look more and more appetizing as the spaghetti wears thin. I'm visualizing them as tiny turkeys on tiny platters with their tiny drumsticks sticking up at their sides. They don't look like they'd hold much dressing.
